Free September 2023 Calendar Printable with Holidays + Homestead To Do list
Can you believe it’s September already?! Where has the summer gone!? I am excited to bid the hot days of summer goodbye. But also equally nostalgic for all the seasonal things that are coming to a close. However, fall is one of my favorite times of the year. There is so much to look forward to at our farm in the month of September. Just like last month, I made a September calendar printable that is forest and mushroom-themed this month. September is a big mushroom hunting season in the Czech Republic. I’m excited to spend more time in the serenity of the surrounding forests.
Read on to find out what lies ahead for us at the farm this month! Don’t forget to grab your copy of my pretty September Calendar!

September in the Czech Republic
September 1st is when school officially starts for all kids in the Czech Republic. With it comes cooler temperatures and a lot more rain. Unlike North America, fall in this part of Europe can be grim pretty early on. Lots of rain, overcast skies, and jacket weather are pretty usual. Unless we get an “Indian Summer” which a lot of people seem to think may be the case this year! All this means is that summer temperatures will stretch on for longer than usual, mostly during the daytime. I’m secretly hoping this will be the case this year. American Fall is my favorite time of year. It is pretty much the main thing I feel like I’m missing out on by not being there.
Main Focus at the Farm
Our main focus this month is wrapping up all our open projects and slowing down our work pace.
New Coop
The new coop is almost finished! We are painting the inside & outside, and putting on a few finishing touches. Micah still has to build a covered run. But we decided to take our time with that and focus on getting it done anytime before the first snow. I am excited to add small cute details to the coop as we tick the big items off the list. I’m considering cute window boxes and even little curtains in the nesting boxes!

Broiler Run
Our broilers are almost 4 weeks old and we are ready to move this flock out to pasture. Micah has been busy building two large chicken tractors for them. We will move those every day to make sure they have enough green grass to snack on (and fertilize!).
Ducks & Geese
As we migrate our layers into their new coop, we will have new space freed up for our ducks and geese out in the field. The girls are so excited to graze on grass any chance they get! I’m sure they will hugely appreciate being able to do so all day long! They will take over the old chicken run and we might even let them out to free graze, depending on how rowdy they get.

Grain Mill
My Kitchen Aid grain mill attachment arrived, as did a delivery of Einkorn and other grains. I’m excited (and a bit nervous) to take my baking game to the next level and start milling my own flour! Stay tuned for the results. Any and all tips are appreciated.

Solo Trip
Micah and I are going on our FIRST solo trip since Aaron was born! It’s hard to believe that we haven’t been anywhere just the two of us in almost 2.5 years. We’re super excited for the getaway but also a little sad to be leaving out best sidekick behind! I’m sure he will have so much fun with his Babi. And it will be a growth moment for us all. Check-in with us over on IG to see where we’re going!
Mushroom Hunting
This is a big tradition in the Czech Republic that I have been doing ever since I remember. A weekend trip to the forest with the whole family has been one of my favorite things. Since we start going as little children, we learn from very early on which mushrooms are safe to pick and which to stay away from. The evenings are spent cleaning & cutting the mushrooms. We then either use them in recipes right away or dehydrate and store them for the winter. Spending many hours wandering through forests is so emotionally & psychologically therapeutic, I can’t wait to do it again.
