October 2023 Free Printable Homestead Calendar

Sharing is caring!

Here it is! My favorite month of the year! The month of October came much faster than I ever anticipated – but I’m so glad it’s here. To celebrate the tenth month of the year, the ultimate pumpkin month, I made y’all a pumpkin-themed Free Printable Calendar for October! Print it out, enjoy all the pumpkins, and celebrate some of the fun holidays that I included in it!

What’s Happening in October

We’re having an unseasonably warm autumn season in the Czech Republic, another point of gratitude for us at the homestead. Our broiler chickens are still out in the pasture, and we’ve got a bunch of other projects to finish – all much easier to do when the weather is so nice & warm. Normally, this month is pretty chilly & rainy in the Czech Republic, very unlike the United States October (in most areas). I was very bummed to be missing all the fall activities in the US this year, but I have to say this amazing weather is not making me miss the US a single bit!

October happens to also be my birthday month, which I’m stoked to celebrate in a very low-key fashion this year. October zodiac signs are Libra (yours truly) and Scorpio towards the very end. And October birthstone is Opal and Tourmaline.

Our Farm in October

Broiler Chickens

Our biggest project this month is beginning the slaughter of our broiler chickens. While we’re super excited to have our freezer full of home-raised chicken meat, we’re also slightly nervous about the logistics of the process. We have a lot of birds, and this is our first year raising them. I’m sure everything will work out just fine in the end (tune in to my IG to follow along how we’re doing) but right now it seems like an insurmountable task!

Ducks & Geese

Our ducks & geese are going to be facing a similar fate to our broilers soon. They have grown to be very sizable, and are actually beginning to be quite frisky! As their feathers are starting to change, this is an ideal time for slaughter. We are contemplating keeping a breeding pair of each, or possibly starting fresh with a different breed in the spring.

Dairy Cow & Calf

They finally have a name! I have named our dairy cow Heidi, and her calf is called Zorka. I’m in love with those two, and I think these two names are a great representation of their character. In other news, we found out that Heidi unfortunately isn’t pregnant, so we are figuring out the necessary steps to take in order to get her there, and our milk production to continue for another happy year.

Garden Harvest

Our fall garden is still going strong – and there are a lot of vegetables waiting for me to harvest & process. The bok choy & nappa cabbage are going to be ready soon. I’m making a part of them into sauerkraut, and part into kimchi (hopefully), and not yet sure what I will do with the rest! Same with beets (fermenting & canning) and carrots that are finally starting to come in. We are also going to have one more round of radishes – my favorite!

My Birthday

My birthday falls towards the beginning of the month, and I’m sure excited to celebrate in a very low-key fashion this year. Perhaps a trip to my favorite local castle town for a castle tour and some medieval fare. Or maybe just a homemade sourdough cake topped with raw milk ice cream. If I’m feeling ambitious, I might sow a Happy Birthday Banner  – but TBD on that one!

Free Printable Calendar for October

Just like every month, I made a free calendar template in PDF format for you to download and print. The 10th month of the year is characterized by all the pumpkins for me, and so that’s what you’ll find on this month’s calendar design! Print it and use it as a wall calendar to keep track of important dates. I chose to use my own monthly calendar to have a visual representation of important events throughout the month. However, I have also found my free printable calendars very useful when it comes to content planning and getting inspiration for things to share on the blog, and social media, and activities to do with Aaron. I’ve also been saving the free printable monthly calendars in an image format, and using as my computer wallpaper.

You should have ample space to take notes, and record special days while also seeing public holidays and other important (and not so important) holidays in a visual format.

This free download can also work as a school calendar, or you can use it as your online calendar on your iPad or mobile device (using a program such as Good Notes or Adobe Reader). It has a landscape orientation, and you can print it on a variety of different paper sizes (just make sure to adjust before printing). You can even print it in a small format and insert it into your personal planner. Or print it in a larger format and use it as your family planner on the fridge so that all family members can be on the same page. The calendar for the second month of the autumn season has a Sunday start so that you can stay on top of your schedule by the time Monday comes around.

I hope my free printable monthly calendar helps you enjoy the romantic autumn season! Hit the download button and the October calendar templates will land directly in your inbox as PDF files!
